Important paleoveneto center, located at the intersection of Via Annia and Via Postumia, in 42 BC became a Roman military colony with the name of Julia Concordia. The ancient Roman city Concordia Sagittaria preserves sections of the walls and traces of the great urban structures: the forum, the theater, the baths and part of a bridge with three arches on which the Via Annia passed.

The exodus of the Venetians caused by the barbarian incursions, led to the transfer of the settlement to Caorle and Concordia was downgraded to a simple stronghold conquering the appellation of "Sagittaria" thanks to the installation of an arrow factory, the "sagittae". Only around the eleventh century the Venetian town returned to live as a fief and diocesan seat dependent on the Patriarch of Aquileia.

The remains of the early Christian complex constitute the earliest evidence of the Christian faith in Veneto. Concordia Sagittaria offers a truly extraordinary picture with regard to history and art between the 4th and 11th centuries: the sepulchral enclosures, the Basilica Apostolorum enriched with mosaics, the Trichora Martyrum, a three-lobed building for the preservation of the relics of the saints and the Baptistery whose interior is beautifully decorated with frescoes.

To conclude this journey in the past, a visit to the Archaeological Civic Museum, which collects Roman and early Christian finds, can not be missed, while numerous materials found in the excavation campaigns are also exhibited at the Museo Nazionale Concordense in Portogruaro.

The historical and artistic beauties of this Venetian corner must be accompanied by the flavors of the area: the excellent DOC wines, such as Cabernet, Pinot nero e grigio and Toi; the typical Montasio cheese and the other less known "drunk", refined with must and pomace and typical salami such as cup ossocolli, musetti (cotechini) and figadei or sausages with liver.

ANIMALS AND PLANTS

ISLANDS AND LAKES

The Sanstino territory has been characterized in the southern part by large woods, lagoons and marshes until a few decades ago.
Ideal biodiversity environments with many species of animals and plants.
It is also for this reason that within the project of historical reconstruction of the woods of Bandiziol and Prassaccon it was also desired to leave a wet area, in part similar to the numerous wetlands once present also inside the forest, called bassone . This intervention reconstructs the natural habitat of various species of birds.
The small lake is located in the eastern part of the Bosco di Bandiziol, it covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and has a round shape with some small islands inside it.
The islands and the tortuous perimeter shapes were created specifically to allow birdlife to hide, to find shelter, so that it can be disturbed as little as possible by human presence.
In fact, the shape of the banks and the vegetation (reed, herbaceous and shrubby vegetation), offer all the environments necessary for rest, feeding and nesting of birds.
To the south-west, at the shore of the pond, the Casoni del Bandiziol was built.
It is a masonry building spread over three floors, one of which is a basement that is used as an ornithological observatory.
